School Clubs

School Clubs

.At Lee-on-the-Solent Junior School we value the extension of learning after the school day ends or during break-times to promote fitness, to learn a new skill and to have fun.

There are a range of clubs run each year depending on availability of staff, expertise and interest, cost and time of year. Digital STEM Photography

The workshops are designed as a fun and creative way for learning how to take the subject of Optics (Photography) in with the themes of: Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths for pupils to engage with new and exciting technologies. These include topics such as: Biotechnology, Optical Engineering and Informatics.

School digital cameras (i-phones, School i-pads or Nintendo DS’s) would need to be provided for each workshop. Also, a notepad and pen together with suitable footwear and clothing would be ideal as we’ll be doing a lot of the practicals outside, on the schools grounds.

The workshops are for a 6-week period, and will be after school on a Wednesday, commencing on Wednesday 10 January 2018 for an hour after school. We will need a minimum of 10 pupils in order to make the course viable. The cost of the six week course is £24.00 per pupil, payable in advance. Payments can be made to us via Cash (to be left at the school office, before the start of the workshops), BACs paid in full, in advance of the sessions beginning at the school or by Cheque (to be left at the school office, before the start of the workshops).

This club is fully subscribed for the first half term but will be available again from after the February half-term for new subscribers.

More information about the club can be found at www.imagingpartnership.co.uk

 Robot Club

This is open to Year 6 children only and is currently fully subscribed.

The club involves building and programming a ‘Robot’ with Lego. The children use logical thinking and algorithms to write instructions using the EV3 Mindstorms software programme. Then, using the Control Lego interface, the programme is downloaded and the robot follows the instructions using motors and sensors such as light, colour and ultrasonic. Children (and adults) love it!

Sessions for the club in the Spring term 2018 will run as follows:

  • Tuesday before school
  • 8:15-8:55
  • 10 sessions
  • Tuesday 9th January to 27th March 2018 (less 6th and 13th February)
  • £2.50 per session
  • Total cost of £25.00 payable in advance (This price has been subsidized by the school by £10 per pupil to make it more affordable).
